My coach explained to me that i wrap the heck out of the ball when i hold it behind my body. What does an arm wrap impead or obstruct? what can i gain by fixing my extreme arm wrap?

Wrap is usually described by hooking the wrist/hand and/or after separating the hands the pitcher takes the ball behind him, showing the ball clearly to the hitter. This is generally considered a flaw, but there are some successful Major League pitchers who wrap. The thought is that the wrap involves more overall arm movement than the standard delivery where the ball can not be seen by the hitter until release. Being that one of the most important things for any pitcher is to be able to repeat and be consistent, arm wrap is considered a detriment, probably effecting control more than other things. This does not necessarily mean it is a negative for every pitcher. Some of the best prospects we see each year have some arm wrap.

I would recommend that you get with a “good” pitching instructor, as soon as possible, before changing anything. Especially if you throw well now. Make sure he is a “good” instructor. Better yet I would contact these people... http://3psports.com/
